Sobathathu

Welcome Danca and Sibusiso Duma were students of the late Trevor Makhoba who noticed and nourished their talent while they were still at school.

Sibusiso Duma has developed his own style which is reminiscent of Makhoba social realism with surrealist overtones, but with a more gentle comment on social mores. He is now using only the best paint and canvas and his work has developed a depth and scale not seen before.

Welcome Danca continues the Makhoba tradition of social comment. In his recent work he explores the darker side of life and comments on hypocrisy of some previously sacrosanct institutions.

Bheki Khambule is a new on the scene and is under the wings of Welcome and Sibusiso. His work is beginning to be noticed. Bheki has recently been selected as a Nivea Competition finalist.

The title of the exhibition Sobathathu - The Three- is reminiscent of the three musketeers as they share studio space.
