Exhibition Programme African Art Centre 2010

27 January 2010:   Black on White

 

A group exhibition ofblack and white works on paper and crafts by various artists.

 

17 February 2010:  Lalelani Mbhele and Bhekinkosi Gumbi

 

An exhibition of paintings by young up and coming local artist Lalelani Mbhele, combined with an exhibition of carved wooden sculptures by Bhekinkosi Gumbi.

 

24 March 2010: Sbusiso Gumede and Themba Khumalo

 

Wooden sculptures by Sbusiso Gumede and Themba Khumalo 2nd and 3rd place winners of the Department of Arts and Crafts, Craft Ya Rona Competition 2009 and awardees of the African Art Centre Artists of the Year 2010.

 

21 April 2010:  Celebrating Craft in 2010

An Exhibition of beaded crafts, embroidery and telephone wire items by the crafters supported by the African Art Centre.

 

12 May 2010:   Zolani Ngcwangula and Jannie van Heerden

 

An exhibition of carved wooden sculptures by Zolani Ngcwangula, brother-in-law of the late Julius Mfethe and landscape paintings by local artist Jannie van Heerden. The paintings on exhibition focus on the landscape of Msinga, a largely rural area located in the deep gorges of the Tugela and BuffaloRivers in KwaZulu Natal

 

2 June 2010: Woza 2010 Fine Art and Craft Exhibition

 

2010 Football fever has hit the African Art Centre and the African Art Centre believes that the forthcoming 2010 World Cup and 450 000 expected visitors will offer the craft industry in South Africa with considerable opportunities.  In anticipation of this once in a lifetime event, crafters supported by the African Art Centre are expanding and extending on the range of products they produce.  A variety of 2010 inspired items, richly invested with individual skill, dedication and ability representing considerable product diversity will be on exhibition at the African Art Centre

 

 

15 July 2010:  Solo exhibition of paintings by Bheki Khambule

 

With no formal art training Bheki Khambule’s progression in the art world has been remarkable.  The African Art Centre is pleased to be bringing a selection of his new paintings to audiences in July. 

 

4 August 2010:  Celebrating young women of KwaZulu Natal

 

In celebration of  Women’s Month  and in conjunction with the National Women’s day, four young upcoming local female  artists; Nozipho Zulu, Witty Nyide, Zama Mthiyane and  Gloria Mbhele will be given a platform to showcase their works.

 

2 September 2010:   Celebrating the Living Legends of KwaZulu Natal  

 

 

The African Art Centre is preparing an exhibition and workshops in celebration of a selection of artists and crafters who have been associated with the African Art Centre.  The celebrations will therefore not only echo the remarkable history of arts and crafts in KwaZulu Natal but will also celebrate our dynamic present.  As September is Heritage Month, the African Art Centre will also be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the African Art Centre.

 

29 September 2010 – Lindelani Ngwenya and Mduduzi Xakaza

 

An exhibition of copper wire sculptures by Lindelani Ngwenya and pastels by Mduduzi Xakaza

 

20 October 2010:  An African Christmas

 

The exhibition will showcase a large selection of skilfully beaded Christmas tree ornaments and decorations, colourfully beaded tableware, hand-built ceramic work and much more. 

10 November 2010:  Derrick Nxumalo

 

 A solo exhibition of landscape paintings by Derrick Nxumalo

 

1 December 2010: New Range of Summer Jewellery and the Velobala Group exhibition

 

The African Art Centre will showcase an exhibition of artworks by the Velobala Group and a new range of beaded and telephone wire summer jewellery.
